Gold Lakes Short Loop

This is the short counter-clockwise version of Gold Lake Loop. The ride is about 44 miles with about 4400 feet of climbing. There are a couple of ways to extend the ride. You can go down to Sierra City or Downieville from Bassetts or you can turn around at Sattley for another trip up to Yuba Pass. This adds about 1600 feet of climbing and 14 miles.

THE ROUTE:

The route will take us along A23 north to Calpine road. We’ll turn left on Calpine Road to 89. Next we’ll go right on 89 and follow 89 towards Graeagle. At the intersection with Gold Lake Road, we’ll decide if there’s a need to go into Graeagle which is a flat ride of about 2 miles each way. After ascending Gold Lake Road we’ll collect at the road to the Gold Lake boat ramp. I might be nice to ride down to the lake to eat, drink, rest, use the bathrooms and enjoy the view. That will be a group decision at the time.

We will collect at all summits, major intersections and at the cafe in Bassetts.

This ride can be done both clockwise and counter clockwise. During the high tourist season, traffic on 89 can be an issue, especially if you don’t do that section of the ride early.
